Reseña

This book was, and continues to be, a dramatic warning to humanity of what could already be an irreversible process towards the extinction of the human race. It is the first time in the history of the Planet that a living species causes its own extinction. But Humanity continues with its irresponsible and suicidal behavior, of unlimited exploitation of the limited resources of the Planet, and of fratricidal confrontation between human beings. Published for the first time in 1986 in Spanish, it is a systemic study of the world crisis, and it anticipates the problems facing the world today, from five perspectives: ecological, economic, social, political and ideological. A relentless analysis is made of the complex aspects of the ecological catastrophe in which we are entering, with the destructive processes that human beings themselves have unleashed, and of which climate change is only one of the symptoms; such as the greenhouse effect, the fusion of the poles, desertification, deforestation, the accelerated extinction of living species, the pollution of the seas and of the atmosphere; the economic crisis, profoundly structural that put us on the path to a consumer society that is mathematically unsustainable; the growing inequality between countries and between social classes; the displacement of population, of dimensions never reached in history; organized crime, corruption, the crisis of all social institutions, political parties, national Assemblies, trade unions, universities, etc; the lack of serious and responsible political leadership; the total lack of control of new technologies, converted into instruments of absolute control of peoples, and above all, the lack of an ideology for our time.
