  • to analyze and interpret the information derived from the observation of phenomena which occur in oceans and their surroundings.
  • the capacity to resolve problems relating to the exploration, administration, regulation and sustainable use of renewable and non-renewable marine resources.
  • to propose ecological projects in coastal and marine zones at a specific level as well as global.
  • to create research projects concerning global phenomena, such as global warming, cycles of nutrients, climate change etc.
  • to create research projects concerning pollution, possible solutions and prevention in coastal and marine zones.
  • to create research projects on the prospection of energy resources, such as minerals, gas, oil and methane hydrate.
  • to create and direct businesses and consultancy firms relating to the management and exploitation of marine resources.
  • the capacity to form human resources, at a university level as well as a technical level.
  • to encourage the culture of respect and care for the coastal and marine zones at different levels of society.

Course of Action

Owing to the multi-disciplined training, the oceanographer can enter distinct sectors of society, such as in private businesses, government institutions, research institutions, university and non-government organizations.
Likewise, they are able to create and manage micro-companies.
